Exceptional hand woven round market basket features a cherry hardwood base, rattan flat oval staves, inserted into the cherry wood base, and natural and dyed flat oval basketweaving with half-round rattan basket rims and a stationary handle, accented with a 1" hand-stenciled and painted strip of ash. This fine and very sturdy market basket goes beyond traditional basketweaving features, with thick and sturdy half-round rims which have been scarfed and tapered, then nailed and double-lashed.
The cherry wood base of this woven market basket has been beautifully finished and has a hand-made scrimshaw floral date piece in the center - the same design which has been hand-painted on the ash wood strip that surrounds this lovely market basket.
This handwoven market basket features many of the fine basketweaving details of a traditional Nantucket basket.
This woven market basket was lightly stained to mellow the raw weavers, and is in excellent condition. Measures 10.5" in diameter, standing 6" high tot the basket rims and 13" high to the top of the stationary handle.
