Vintage North East Indian Ash Sweetgrass Sewing Basket
Vintage (c. 1950's) fine North East Native American Indian sweetgrass sewing basket made of natural and dyed ash and sweetgrass. I've dated this basket c. 1950's due to the style, patina and a paper receipt found inside this handwoven basket together with vintage sewing accessories. (not included in sale)
This Indian ash and sweet grass basket is in good condition, though a few of the fine ash weavers along the outside edge of the basket are broken. Some discoloration on the lid is also noted, and may wash off.
The inside colors of both the dyed ash staves and weavers are still quite bright, and the seagrass weavers used around the center have not changed much in color over the years. The outside of this lidded sewing basket, though, has aged to a golden tan. Usually, the wrapped loop on the lid is broken or lost over the years and with use, but this one is still sturdily attached.
This fine Indian sewing basket of ash and seagrass measures 9" in diameter, 3" tall to the basket rims and 3.125" tall to the top of the lid.
