Handwoven Sugar & Spice Market Basket
Handwoven Sugar and Spice market basket, hand woven personally by Kathleen Becker, features a solid wood base, wood handle and a decorative dyed heart buckle. The sweet wooden heart buckle gives this market basket its "sugar" and "spice"!
This handwoven Sugar & Spice Market Basket was crafted using a pine wood base, cut into a diamond oval and slotted to accept the hardwood handle and rattan reed staves. The hardwood handle was pre-stained in a light oak stain to mellow the raw wood.
Woven with 1/4" flat oval natural weavers, with two 1/4" dyed blue flat oval weavers and one 1" wide flat dyed rattan weaver, which is woven thru the wood heart buckle. The rims were fashioned from flat oval rattan reed and single lashed in rattan, with a seagrass filler between the rims. The entire basket was lightly stained to give this basket an "aged patina" and to mellow the raw weavers. The base of the basket has been initialed and dated by the weaver.
Measuring 11.5" long x 9.5" wide, 6" high to the rims and 8" high to the handle. The basket makes a darling bun serving basket, sewing or craft basket, or display basket. (Mine is filled with collected pine cones and pine nuts, and gives a very country look to the shelf!)
