Handwoven Market Basket with an Oak Spindle Handle
Nicely hand-crafted and hand-woven Market Basket with a solid woven basket base, natural and dyed burgundy rattan reed weavers and a oak wood turned spindle attached with sturdy twisted black wire basketry handle.
The fully filled and woven base allows this nice size market basket to hold just about anything! Notice the pretty "V" used on the base fillers. Natural rattan in flat oval and wider flat rattan reed was used to weave the sides of this market basket. Both natural and dyed burgundy rattan reed was used for the base and the uprights.
The rims are tightly lashed in rattan reed, with a seagrass filler used between the inside and outside basket rims. A lathe-turned oak wood spindle was used for the basket handle grip, which is attached to sturdy black wire handle inserts, that not only hold the wood basket handle grip, but are also woven between the rims for a sturdy handle which won't pop out of the basket.
Signed and dated on the base by basketweaver "Peggy" and dated 2004, this handwoven market basket measures 13.5" long, 9" wide, 4.25" high to the rims and 8" high to the top of the basket handle.
