Large Woven African Tribal Art Coil Basket Tray
Large African Tribal Art Coil Basket, hand-woven to resemble a traditional Navajo Indian ceremonial basket, The Wedding Basket, used in traditional Navajo (Dine) wedding ceremonies.
Natural fibers were used to craft this fine African coil basket or tray, with fibers dyed in chocolate brown, pumpkin rust, golden yellow, black and natural. A hanging strap was incorporated into this basket to allow this fine woven African basket to be a hanging wall basket or piece of fine African handicraft art.
In the Navajo story of creation, The First People emerged from the center of the Earth, which is represented by the circular design in the center of the basket. The pumpkin rust colors probably symbolize the Earth and the mountains, and the golden yellow would represent the rays of the sun.
This large, finely handwoven coil African Coil basket features many of the traditional colors and designs of an authentic Navajo Indian Wedding Basket.
This handwoven African tribal art coil basket tray measures a huge 16.5" in diameter, is 3" deep and weighs 2 pounds. Excellent condition, and ready to be displayed with your African artwork, or used as a hanging basket for wall art. You can read more about woven African baskets and African basketry here.
